Art Abu Dhabi 2024

Art Abu Dhabi x Sevil Dolmacı Gallery

Sevil Dolmacı Gallery is thrilled to make its debut at Art Abu Dhabi, taking place from November 20-24, 2024. Known for its dynamic art programs, installations, talks, and exhibitions throughout the year, Art Abu Dhabi sets a significant platform for artistic expression. At this year’s fair, Sevil Dolmacı Gallery will showcase recent works by Ahmet Oran, Ekrem Yalçındağ, and Nevin Aladağ, Turkish artists recognized for their international contributions and museum collaborations, alongside Daniel Knorr from Romania, who represented his country at the Venice Biennale in 2005.
The gallery’s curated selection, titled “Material Matters,” brings together diverse medium approaches that reflect the artists’ geographical influences and shared concerns. This collection emphasizes humanity’s critical role in the ecological chain, suggesting that a respectful, constructive interaction between humans, the environment, and all living species is essential for a balanced ecosystem. The works explore both the present and potential impacts of an evolving ecosystem on human life. Aladağ, Knorr, Oran, and Yalçındağ engage viewers with installations crafted from varied materials—wood, copper, oil paint, polyurethane, and textiles of distinct origins—drawing attention to the concept of balance and fostering awareness.
Ahmet Oran employs oil paint in abstract compositions inspired by natural forms, evoking a sense of disruption within the ecosystem. Daniel Knorr promotes sustainability, urging a protective approach toward the ecosystem. Ekrem Yalçındağ utilizes woodblock printing to replicate natural forms, referencing the dynamic shifts in ecosystems over time. Nevin Aladağ, a Turkish-born German artist, integrates copper—a naturally occurring metal—as well as silk, untreated and industrial wool carpets, kilims, and fabrics. These materials connect to her cultural roots, symbolizing the duality between the natural and the artificial.
Theese artists’ practices, rooted in diverse environments—Oran in Istanbul and Vienna, Knorr in Berlin and Hong Kong, Yalçındağ in Frankfurt and Istanbul—embody a blend of local influence and personal heritage, resulting in distinct interpretations of shared themes.
Sevil Dolmacı Gallery warmly invites all art enthusiasts to visit Booth AT11 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Atrium, from November 20-24, 2024.
