SEVIL DOLMACI DUBAI’S FIRST GROUP EXHIBITION
“MATERIAL MATTERS”
1-20 FEBRUARY, 2024
AT SEVIL DOLMACI DUBAI
Sevil Dolmacı Dubai presents its first international group exhibition with the artworks of 11 international artists, between 1-20 February 2024. The show titled “Material Matters” is composed of these artists’ attention-grabbing and thought-provoking canvas, digital and sculpture works.
Sevil Dolmacı Dubai is inviting the viewer to delve into the role that material plays in contemporary art practices through the artworks of 11 international artists from different parts of the world, namely Ahmet Oran, Andy Warhol, Beverly Fishman, Bosco Sodi, Cody Choi, Nejat Satı, Ozan Oganer, Ozan Türkkan, Ross Bleckner, Rosy Keyser, Ryakartstyle [Dmitry Mironov] and Sinan Saül. The meaning of a particular material for an artist or the reason behind an artist’s selection of a specific material in their art practice is the key point which the viewer is encouraged to contemplate about while experiencing the exhibition. In “Material Matters”, a series of artworks created of a wide range of material is presented to the viewers.
An artist’s material selection might depend on a variety of reasons, such as the location and period of time they were born and brought up in; their cultural, economic, ethnic, political, religious and social background; their aim in practicing art, which might differ from criticising an industry, institution or overall system to increasing the awareness of people about local, regional or global issues; or simply their wish to evoke histories, [re]connect with places or bring back their personal and collective memories. Inspired by the central role the material plays in the practice of contemporary artists, “Material Matters” is creating a space for the viewers to experience various works with various materials and explore which material they sense a stronger connection with and why.
