Gençay Aytekin, born in Istanbul in 1984, received his education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University’s Painting department, studying under the guidance of Prof. Aydın Ayan from 2005 to 2011.
In 2011, he held his first solo exhibition at Sanatorium. He worked as an assistant in established Turkish artist Ekrem Yalçındağ’s studio from 2012 to 2022. Aytekin also served as an assistant in Hermann Nitsch’s performances in Istanbul in 2013.
Aytekin’s fascination with cartoons during his childhood formed the foundation of his current art, manifesting itself in the vibrant colors and dynamic lines prevalent in his works. One of the representatives of the new era of pop art, Aytekin explores the challenges of existence and adulthood with a childlike naivety. Drawing inspiration from Pop-Art and the colorful world of the popular culture of his formative years, he aims to create a lively and playful world.
The artist’s works are featured in institutional collections like Özyeğin University, as well as various private collections.
