SEYHUN TOPUZ

Seyhun Topuz (b.1942)

Seyhun Topuz was born in 1942 in Balikesir. She graduated from the Hüseyin Gezer Workshop in 1971 at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (today’s Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University), Department of Sculpture.

She started to work as an assistant in the same department in 1974. She received a proficiency in art in 1977 with her thesis on Transparency in Sculpture, Inner Light and Illusional Movement. She worked with the sculptor Jose de Creeft in New York between 1978-1980. She opened her own workshop in Ayaspaşa in 1980. In 1983, she went to New York again to work for a year. Many of Seyhun Topuz’s personal exhibitions, who have participated in group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad since 1972, were opened in Istanbul Maçka Art Gallery, Galeri Nev Istanbul and Gallery Nev Ankara.

Topuz was among the names participating in the 1st International Istanbul Contemporary Art Exhibitions (1987), which will turn into the Istanbul Biennial in the following years. In 2013, the 42nd year of his artistic life was celebrated with a comprehensive exhibition held at the Istanbul Elgiz Museum.
